Okay, I’ll give it to you straight. There are posts on what to call your posts so search engine vacuums suck in readers. Turns out the #1 title you can post is, You Are Not Alone.
I was mulling about this title when I opened a post by recent Whitworth University graduate, Elise Page at http://iamtheginjaninja.blogspot.com/2011/04/odyssey.html. In the midst of grappling with coming of age in the raw 21st century, she writes, “We are all in a position where we must try to become adults in the face of the worst economy in decades, in an age where people marry later. We are incredibly alone.”
My heart sank. Here was the need statement to support the highly touted title.
I placed these two together:
“We are incredibly alone.”
“You are not alone.”
I wept. How can a grandmother in the 7th decade of life speak into the lives of this coming-of-age generation and be heard?
How can I let them know, they are not alone?
What wisdom have I gleaned in the 40 years since I tossed my mortarboard over the rainbow at a Whitworth University commencement to capture their attention?
Believing that the Flourishing Life is our heart’s cry and what we were created for—What can I offer as a glimmer of hope?
(Knowing also that posts should be somewhere between 250 and 350 words, it’s time to bring this segment to a close with the promise of more to come. You really didn’t expect an answer this soon, did you?)
So may I offer some temporary encouragement? Given the popularity of the title You are Not Alone, know there must be millions desperately seeking a fully committed, life companion in a flourishing economy!
The answer that first comes to mind is to take hope, Elise. To you and your generation—you are not alone!
