Eating for Your Skin

When I started reading on nutrition in January, it was to learn how to eat to improve the skin. There is way more written on this topic than I would have guessed when I started. Yesterday, I got confirmation for what I learned at the library.

Bastyr Center for Natural Health offered a great free class on eating for your skin taught by Phoebe Yin, ND. It substantiated everything I had read. Here are some of the tips that I picked up.

Eat a low glycemic diet.

Eat 7-10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day–(my focus on Noevir green smoothies makes this easy).

Raw nuts and seeds are hugely important in your diet. Focus on 2-3 organic brazil nuts per day to get Selenium. This mineral is very important in protecting your body from cancer. Hint–to turn nuts from acidic to alkaline, germinate and/or sprout them.

Quality fats are very important. The professor focused on extra virgin olive oil as your main oil. Use coconut oil for sauteing.

Herbs and Spices are strongly anti-inflammatory. Fresh ginger is a great one easily added to green smoothies. Also, cinnamon.

Tea–If you’ve been reading my blog you know I advocate for the Noevir Herbal Blend Tea.

Include probiotics which come from fermented foods. This category includes kombucha, miso, sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, and kimchi.

Stay away from processed foods, minimize alcohol, reduce stress and eliminate food allergens.

Enjoy your flourishing health with this diet.
