In 1998, I was gardening one day when I was struck with a severe pain that wouldn’t go away. Turns out I had an ovarian cyst about the size of a lemon. Ouch! I laid on the floor for about five days because that was the only place I could be comfortable.
Then I picked myself up off the floor to attend a class at Puget Consumer’s Cooperative (PCC to Seattleites) called
“Food is Your Best Medicine.”
The instructor was a doctor of Chinese Medicine. I was enthralled! He heard my story and told me exactly what to eat and what not to eat.
My naturopathic doctor also made suggestions, while the OB-GYN said she could schedule surgery immediately. She added, “It might be cancer and if it is we’ll just take everything.” I gathered the skimpy gown around me and announced that my daughter was graduating from high school in two weeks and I fully intended on being there. She said it could easily wait a few more days. I said that two weeks after that I had a contract to speak at a professional conference and they were paying me $500 for 45 minutes. No one had made that offer to me before–so I would be taking it.” I added that I would be changing my diet and adding in prayer. I remember saying that I would trust God; I wasn’t worried. I don’t remember that she said much after that other than that she would schedule an ultrasound every six weeks to monitor the cyst.
A couple days later she called me saying she had looked at the pictures again and “It isn’t cancer.” I personally thought she could have done that initially!
Bottom line–I changed my diet cutting out sugar and most meat and dairy. I ate lots of carrots. I added a lot of prayer. Every six weeks I had another ultra sound and every six weeks the size diminished by half. And voila–the evening before Thanksgiving the OB-GYN called to say that the most recent ultrasound showed it was totally gone!
Praise God and pass the carrot sticks!
Have you heard this quote recently? Americans are the most overfed and undernourished population in the world? It keeps popping up reminding me that food really is your best medicine and Americans aren’t eating much life-giving food currently.
How much “live food” are you consuming daily?
What percentage of breakfast, lunch and dinner consists of opening boxes and removing lids?
What percentage is “live food” fresh from the garden or the green grocer?
How many servings of fresh fruits and vegetables are you enjoying daily?
What are you eating that is feeding you, but not nourishing you?
Surgery or Diet? Diet or Surgery? Seems like a pretty easy answer to me!
To enjoy flourishing health–you must be eating nourishing wealth–like fruits, vegetables, greens–the fresher the better!

Impressive testimony. I agree that healthy/healing food is given short thrift, or at best underestimated.
Jonathan, like me, you grew up in a home where nutrition was an important factor. We are blessed! Thanks for the comment. It is gratifying to hear from readers.
Have you stayed off sugar and most mead and dairy indefinitely? Thank you. Chris
Thanks for asking Chris. My goal is to eat mostly veggies, fruit, protein, seeds and nuts. However, I do have a bit of dairy and sugar and wheat occasionally. I would rather have some tasty fun rather than abstaining and then totally going off program because I just can’t be good anymore.
