When the cry of a baby was heard beneath the rubble, soldiers began digging. They found the four-month-old girl tucked under boards and debris safe in her pink pram. Flung from the arms of her parents as the tsunami wrestled their home from its foundation, she had been safely preserved until the waters subsided.
Can you imagine the joy as she was reunited with her parents? I can just see them counting fingers and toes, looking for bruises or lacerations. I can see them smothering her with affection, even as noses wrinkled acknowledging the need for a fresh diaper! She’s safe! That’s all that matters!
Can you imagine how the parents responded to her rescuers? Words are insufficient containers for this scene. Paint this picture on the canvas of your imagination.
As she grows up, she will learn her story. She is a miracle, a ray of sunshine on a very dark day! She is a child with a destiny of hope for her nation.
This baby is Japan. This time she can’t dig out by herself. She cannot minister to her own needs. She needs the world community.
My hope is that as the world ministers to Japan, there will be tremendous healing from the emotional wounds of our collective past. I am reminded of the 23rd Psalm. Beyond the need for restoration of the landscape, may we be the hands and feet of the Good Shepherd to restore the spirit and soul of Japan? May there be a common embracing as brothers and sisters let old antipathies fall away? May we be reunited as sojourners on a common planet respectfully embracing one another with love and gratitude?
From spiritual restoration is reborn the Flourishing Life.
Thank you Marlee! Bless you!
