“Hey Moses, show up in Egypt a week from Tuesday and bring your walking stick! You’re my man!”
“Why?” Demands Moses.
“Please don’t get stuck there. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you. Hey bro, just remember, you’re my man!” Answers God.
The Prophet Moses earned his livelihood with a staff carved with his history, according to research. It might have included his unusual birth and preservation in a little basket in the river, his adoption by royalty, the Harvard-quality education with all his degrees, and his hasty escape to the wilderness. In today’s language, his portfolio tells all—his good times thriving in Egypt and a whole lot on his downtime languishing in the wilderness.
Can you relate?
You made it through those uncertain childhood years. They were tough, but you got a few breaks. You were lucky and got the university training and all the know-how, but the right opportunity never seemed to show up and when you tried to force it, you bombed and had to get out of Dodge! Pronto! Now you’re flipping burgers at the local dive—not even at a national chain!
The future looks, dare I say, bleak and uneventful! Hang on!
Yesterday, a friend invited a group to lunch and showed us the documentary on The Exodus Decoded from the History channel. With amazing detail the narrator retells the story of the 10 plagues and Israel’s escape from Egypt. Every detail is substantiated with massive research and evidence.
You must see it.
Bottom line, by setting The Exodus in 1500 BCE the timing coincides perfectly with one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the history of the world from the Santorini (Greece) Volcano. Explanations are given for every single plague including why the first-born died and others did not. Combining geologic drama with a spiritual directive, God orchestrates massive shifts and rumblings from the deep to execute a plan to get Israel’s descendants out of Egypt’s bondage. His mouthpiece? You gotta love it–a guy flipping burgers at a dive in Yuma. He’s a man with a portfolio in a nosedive.
Ah, but what you really have is CONVERGENCE! Preparation! Timing! Obedience!
Moses had the preparation. Check! Oh and although Moses didn’t have a clue, God had done some geologic prep work too!
God had the timing right even if Moses didn’t get it.
You need to know that sometimes God will not offer you the back stage tour for 3500 years! Don’t stand around and wait! When the gate opens and it’s time to jump in the next Space Mountain Adventure car, just get in on his timing and see what happens!
Obedience–that’s what Moses needed to bring to the table. That’s what you need, too!
Has God come and talked with you about taking your portfolio and just showing up somewhere? NOW! Do you have some words of introduction rumbling around in your brain? You’re probably thinking, “That’s too weird!”
God has a way of holding his cards close. He isn’t likely to give you a lesson on geology to convince you. You would never believe that he could pull off the greatest volcanic eruption of all time in perfect coordination with your declaration, “I’m the man you need for the job you want done!”
“Who me? I’m a loser!” is probably more likely.
When it comes down to it, God simply challenges us to “Trust and Obey!”
Get in God’s timing. Bring your portfolio and declare a matter! Simply believe that if God has called you, his favor goes before you today! Declare it! Watch to see how God orchestrates the reveal scene with all that trecky drama!
I DECLARE THE FAVOR OF GOD GOES BEFORE ME TODAY!
You can read all about this in the Bible in book of Exodus chapters 1-18. It is a riveting story. Then search out the documentary, The Exodus Decoded, by James Cameron. Now go get in the game!
