Mom, I sound like you when I talk

Happy Mother’s Day!

My Mother is having a great day today! She is with her mother. Jesus’ mother is also close by. The largest gathering of Mothers today is on the other side. Glory Be! They ran the race and won! From the balconies of heaven they are leaning over to cheer us on!

We are not alone. We’re being watched! How like a mother. She used to have eyes in the back of her head; now she has balconies we cannot see from which to see–us!

Mother's day 3

Last night as I sat at my computer post-processing photos, our daughter popped over and walked in. Clearing the clutter from my office couch, she sat down; her dad soon followed  and then she announced.

“Mom, today when I talked I realize I sound like you.”

Ok–those may not be the exact words. She will call me on this so I must be truthful, but that was the gist.

Glory Be! I am an influencer to my girls and they are responsive to my sway.

If I have influenced the way they talk, I have influenced the way they think and do, love and live. This mom-thing has been a successful mission.

It reminds me of Carl Sandburg’s poem Honey and Salt on love–“the winding of it gets into your walk, your hands, your face and eyes.”

Thank God that today I am the product of a mother’s love. She may be on the other side but I carry her expressions like sparkly yarn woven within the warp and woof of my identity.Mother's day 4Our younger daughter, Annemarie, carries so much of her grandmother including her coffee-colored curls updated for the 21st century.

Mother's day 2

Thank God my daughters are identifying that they too carry the expression of our family’s destiny that flows through our genes.

It has gotten into the way they walk and talk, hold their hands and greet the day.

Mother's day 1

Now onto the next generation. The little ones–Sam and Char and Sky–may they walk the walk yielding to the gentle but deep tug of destiny.

Lord, help me realize that my process is for advancing their destiny; in the grander scheme of things it really is about leaving a legacy.

Happy Mother’s Day–to all! Your mom is watching. Eat your peas…
