Reading Facebook is people watching from the anonymity of your easy chair. All who post are weather reporters. Posters come in two types. Some write about clouds, drizzle, rain, sleet, hail, snow, tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Others post about sunshine! Not just concerning the weather, but everything!
You might respond, they’re just telling it like it is. Really?
Every post reveals an attitude and an emotion. According to Dr.Caroline Leaf, that emotion is either love or fear.
In Who Switched Off My Brain, Dr. Leaf explains that “thought formation and emotional expression are always tied to a specific flow of chemicals in your body.” When Dr. Alejandro Junger, in Clean, writes about complaining he uses the metaphor of exhaust coming out of your tail pipe relieving pressure for the short term. He says, “…this negative energy pollutes your environment and is doubly toxic to the people who are listening.” Sounds a lot like second-hand smoke, doesn’t it?
Try this revealing exercise. Scroll through your last 10 posts and look for the underlying emotion. Is it love or fear? Remember, it’s either or!
- What percentage brings sunshine to the heart of your reader?
- What percentage brings rain showers?
Consider: If you would refocus every Facebook post from the negative to the positive what shifts might take place in you?
- In your physical health?
- In your emotional health?
- In your mental health?
- In your marriage?
- In your bank account?
Here’s a recommendation for all of us, me included.
Move your microphone from the shady side of the house, mountain, or opportunity to the sunny side?
Then imagine how different your life might look if you were known as the Purveyor of Sunshine on Facebook?
